Early Childhood Substitute Solutions is a program of Child Care Resources of Monmouth County. In addition to our core services helping families to find child care, managing child care subsidy, helping centers become licensed and home providers to become registered, and offering an array of child care trainings to support high-quality child care, we are currently in the process of setting up a child care substitute pool.

Early Childhood Substitute Solutions is designed to meet several community needs:

  • help child care programs fill temporary staff absences (e.g., due to staff calling out sick, attendance at a training, taking personal time, etc.)
  • help individuals who love working with children but may not be interested in full-time employment (i.e., flexible hours or part-time work)

It’s a tight child care market. Currently, there is a child care staffing shortage statewide.  Early Childhood Substitute Solutions builds on CCR’s current training work by creating a pool of background check-cleared and trained individuals who can fill in for staff vacancies. Just imagine – child care programs can access a pool of individuals who are screened and ready to work. People who love children can match their passion with our state approved training (including CPR certification and first aid) and work when they want. No child care program experience? No worries. Our trainings are free!

How does it work? Through our ChildcareMatters platform,

  • Child care center directors and registered family child care providers post positions for which they would like a substitute (e.g., the position, the date(s) and time(s) needed).
  • Cleared and trained substitutes respond to the posted positions if interested and available.
  • Directors and registered family child care providers select from those who have responded to the position post. Payment is made through the program’s current payroll process.

Our goal: Child Care Resources will connect qualified early educators with a network of partner child care centers and registered family child care providers.
